Letter 229 (487). To Navratia, son
I joyfully thanked our good God, having learned from your letters, my child and longed brother, that you live in the Lord and abide in the truth of the faith of God unchanged. And although I, a sinner, take care of everyone, I worry about you, especially my beloved and honest, not without reason, because you are above all in brotherhood and, more importantly, you walk among the nets of the wicked. But where God and God’s truth are,everything human is powerless. Nothing can ever shake such a solid person in the faith, even if “the earth shook and the mountains moved into the heart of the seas,” as St. David sings (Ps. 45: 3). Therefore, putting off any hesitation, “with patience we will pass the field before us, looking at the ruler and finisher of the faith of Jesus” (Heb. 12: 1-2). May He give us strength and firmness to withstand suffering for Him even with the shedding of blood, that is, to death. And blessed is the believer that what He said will be fulfilled. Time does not allow me to say anything else much. Let me add only this: as often as possible, turn to God with a fervent prayer that I, unworthy of my sins, be assigned to your part and to the number of people like you. Your brother living with me greets you.

Epistola 229 (487). Către Navkratie, fiul
Eu am mulțumit cu bucurie bunului nostru Dumnezău, după ce am aflat din epistolele tale, copilul meu și frate dorit, că tu trăiești în Domnul și rămâi în adevărul credinței lui Dumnezău neschimbat. Și deși eu, un păcătos, am grijă de toată lumea, eu mă îngrijorez pentru tine, mai ales iubitul și cinstitul meu, nu fără motiv, pentru că ești mai presus de toate în frățietate și, mai important, te plimbi printre plasele/năvoadele celor răi. Dar acolo unde este Dumnezău și adevărul lui Dumnezău, tot ceea ce omul este neputincios. Nimic nu poate vreodată zdruncina o persoană atât de solidă în credință, chiar dacă „pământul s-a clătinat și munții s-au mutat în inima mărilor”, așa cum cântă Svântul David (Ps. 45: 3)/1688 “să va clati pămîntul şi să vor premeni munţii în inemile mărilor”(Ps. 45, 3). Prin urmare, eliminând orice ezitare, „cu răbdare vom trece câmpul din fața noastră, uitându-ne la stăpânitorul și desăvârşitorul credinței lui Iisus” (Evrei 12: 1-2)/1688 “pren răbdare să alergăm la lupta ce iaste înaintea noastră; Căutînd spre începătoriul credinţii şi săvîrşitorul Iisus” (Ovrei 12, 1-2). Fie ca El să ne dea nouă putere și fermitate pentru a rezista suferinței pentru El chiar și cu vărsarea de sânge, care este/adică, până la moarte. Și binecuvântat este credinciosul că ceea ce a spus El va fi împlinit. Timpul nu îmi permite mie să spun altceva mai mult. Lasă-mă să adaug numai asta: cât de des posibil, întorce-te la Dumnezău cu o rugăciune înflăcărată ca eu, nevrednic de păcatele mele, să fiu dat părții tale și a numărului de oameni ca tine. Fratele tău care locuiește cu mine te salută [pe] tine.
